Rubber Fig Care Guide

01 — GET TO KNOW IT

Meet Your Plant.

Meet the Rubber Fig, a striking evergreen known for its glossy, oversized leaves and strong upright growth. Its rich foliage, sculptural form, and naturally elegant presence make it a beautiful statement plant, bringing a touch of lush greenery and timeless sophistication to any interior.

02 — AT A GLANCE

Your Care Essentials.

03 — LIGHT & PLACEMENT

Find Its Perfect Place.

Rubber Fig thrives in bright, indirect sunlight and can also benefit from gentle direct sunlight, particularly in the morning. It can tolerate medium light, but growth may become slower and foliage less vigorous. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh afternoon sunlight, which can scorch its leaves.

Place your plant near a bright window where it receives plenty of indirect light and some gentle morning sun. Rotate the pot periodically to encourage balanced growth and even foliage development.

Rubber Fig varieties offer beautiful foliage variations, from deep burgundy and almost-black leaves to green, cream, and pink variegated patterns. Varieties such as Burgundy, Tineke, and Ruby each bring a distinctive colour palette, with variegated types generally requiring brighter indirect sunlight to maintain their vibrant markings.

04 — WATERING

A Little Care, Consistently.

Water your Rubber Fig when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry to the touch. Water thoroughly until excess drains from the bottom of the pot, then empty the saucer. Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet, as this can lead to root rot and leaf drop.

Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, and reduce watering during autumn and winter as growth slows.

Water Tip: Water with clean, room-temperature water. Rainwater or filtered water is preferred, especially in areas where tap water quality may vary.

05 — HUMIDITY & TEMPERATURE

Create a Tropical Haven.

Rubber Fig prefers temperatures between 16–27°C. Protect it from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, and direct heat from heaters or air-conditioning vents.

It adapts well to average household humidity. If indoor air is particularly dry, a humidifier can help maintain comfortable humidity levels. Frequent misting is not necessary.

06 — FEEDING

Support Healthy Growth.

Feed your Rubber Fig once or twice a month during spring and summer using a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions. Reduce or pause feeding during autumn and winter when growth slows.

07 — Keeping Your Plant at Its Best

Care That Keeps It Thriving.

08 — TROUBLESHOOTING

Read the Signs.

Learn to recognise the early signs of stress in your Rubber Fig. A few simple adjustments to watering, light, and its surroundings can help keep its foliage healthy and beautiful.
