Alocasia is said to be the plant in all the Western and Eastern versions of the fairytale of Jack and the Beanstalk. It thereby stands for seizing opportunities when they arise, even when they’re risky.
Giant Taro: The petiole of this plant can grow as high as 1.8m, and the whole plant can reach up to 3.5-4.5m. As it is considered a giant in the Alocasia genus, it is called Giant Taro.
The huge, curved leaves resemble the ears of an elephant, which is an auspicious symbol of strength, wisdom and protection in Chinese culture.
According to legend, there was a princess in the ancient European Aegean Sea who liked the elephant's ear plant. The beautiful princess fell in love with a human teenager. When the teenager heard that there was ice-like elephant's ear growing in the cold Arctic, he sought out to find it for the princess, but failed after suffering from many different kinds of hardships. But the princess thought she would be happy as long as they were together.
